Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's military parents lived in Louisiana as young as eighteen years old. The singer won the talent contest with a performance of Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker was able to move to Georgia when she was fifteen. She was beginning to compose songs, was making regular visits to Nashville and was visiting record companies and music publishers in search of deals. The representative of the independent label Big Yellow Dog Records heard her when she was 17 and began selling her songs to various labels. After Mercury Records president David Massey took a look at the demos, he handed them along to L.A. Reid head of the associated Island/Def Jam label group and Reid agreed to sign her up for an agreement with a record label. Her first album a self-titled effort under the moniker Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James had a moderately impressive debut album. Wanted, a song taken from the album, made the Top 40 singles chart. Decker was always a country singer, yet the album was produced and promoted with pop audiences in mind. Two more singles off the album, Decker confronted label management to have more control over her music and her next single Boys in the Summer was a more country-oriented release. The second album of Decker, dubbed with the name Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was cancelled due to the fact that Mercury discovered the lack of success on three of her singles in the country charts.
